“I’ve actually won some jackpots, and I can’t wait to spend our money in Cleveland!” While some had the grand opening circled on their calendar months in advance, others were less in-the-know, but equally eager to scope out the casino, which boasts a 96,000 square foot gaming floor, 2,100 slot machines, 63 table games and a World Series of Poker room. The family, which regularly makes trips to Atlantic City and other gambling destinations was excited to see a casino closer to home. Judy and Dennis Findley of Vermilion waited in line with their daughter Shelly Reddy of Lorain. On Monday, lines of excited patrons waited for a chance to be one of the first to try to get lucky in Cleveland. Officials said the casino will play host to an estimated 12,000 guests on a nightly basis. The new complex, built in the Higbee Building on Public Square, officially opened its doors at 9:30 p.m. It will take years to know just what effect the Horseshoe Casino will have on Downtown Cleveland and Northeast Ohio, but Monday’s grand opening seemed to be a jackpot.
